Pedestrian Safety and Awareness Campaign
Organized By: Transport Professionals Forum, Bangladesh (TPFB)
Format: On-site urban road safety and public engagement campaign
Context: Conducted near major pedestrian crossing nodes and foot-over bridges in high-traffic urban corridors
Objective: Direct outreach and public communication to encourage proper usage of pedestrian infrastructure and mitigate urban road accidents
Core Awareness Guidelines Promoted: During the campaign, TPFB members engaged commuters using announcements and informational outreach centered on six vital pedestrian safety principles:
1. Use Dedicated Crossings: Always utilize foot-over bridges and designated zebra crossings instead of darting across busy lanes
2. Stay on Walkways: Walk exclusively on designated footpaths rather than walking on motorable carriageways
3. Walk Against Traffic: Where pedestrian walkways are unavailable, walk along the right side of the road facing incoming traffic for better visibility and reaction time
4. Respect Signals: Never cross the street against active traffic lights or signals
5. Designated Boarding: Avoid boarding or alighting from buses mid-road or outside authorized bus stoppage zones
6. Eliminate Distractions: Do not browse smartphones or stare at screens while walking or crossing roadways

Launched in December 2025, the Transport Professionals Foundation Bangladesh (TPFB) serves as a unified platform to address the country's "megaproject paradox"—the gap between heavy infrastructure investments and the local expertise required to sustain them. By uniting transport practitioners, academics, and policymakers, TPFB aims to bridge the academia-industry divide, foster advanced research, and reduce dependency on foreign consultants.
